TALL POPPIES PERFORMANCE TEACHERS COLLECTIVE

Tall Poppies Drama School has been offering top quality drama and communication programmes since 2006.  Originally owned and managed by Del Costello, the business developed a strong brand and following in the region.  In 2017, Carmen Wilson became the business owner, and Tall Poppies continues to thrive. All our tutors are industry professionals and are focused on providing a fun, energy filled learning environment for the students they teach.  Tutors are fully supported and supervised though a connected, school wide curriculum.  Working as a team on programme development, quality control and moderation we ensure that there is consistency across all our curriculum. Guidance and support for tutors comes from  our Teaching Practice Advisor.  We are 100% committed to providing an extremely high standard of tuition that is focused on the individual.

Carmen counts drama among her top-five inspirations. She has studied, acted and directed extensively for the stage, in the process winning 1996 Wellington's Best Young Female Actress. In 2014 she directed Rongotea School's major production, adjudicated a talent show and was MC for a Hawkes Bay music festival. She has worked with Dr Angie Farrow, Sir Peter Jackson and Phil Mann.
Carmen is also a registered teacher, with passionate commitment to the development of children's self-esteem and communication skill through drama. Carmen is currently completing her Licentiate Diploma in the Teaching of Speech and Drama.

Morghan Work  ASB Teaching Speech and Drama

Morghan started speech and drama classes in the UK at the tender age of 3 and in 2007 was one of the first students to attend Tall Poppies in Palmerston North. She completed her ASB teaching internship with Tall Poppies before heading overseas to live and teach drama in a special needs community. Morghan has recently returned from the UK and is excited to be working with students in Palmerston North. She has a real heart for people and enjoys working in her local community. Morghan is passionate about growing self-confidence and appreciation for the arts; through fun and interactive drama classes.

Amy Atkins  ASB Teaching Speech and Drama

Amy’s love of the arts started early; she performed in school productions and began writing poetry and plays at high school. She completed her ASB teaching internship with Tall Poppies Collective in 2014, and is now working towards a BA in English and Theatre at Massey University. A universal performer with a passion for physical theatre, she enjoys leading commedia dell’arte, melodrama, and street theatre workshops in the community. In 2016, Amy wrote and directed the Tall Poppies Youth Theatre production of Zookeeper Sam’s Bad Day. With an enthusiasm for writing, and performing she encourages storytelling, and role-play to inspire confidence, and nurture speaking skills in students.
